How the Credit Actually Works
1. It Is an Annual Credit, Not Monthly
Unlike the $10/month wireless credit or the $20/month digital entertainment credit on other Amex cards, the ChatGPT Business credit is a flat $300 annual pool per calendar year. Amex will automatically reimburse you for any eligible ChatGPT Business charge until you hit the $300 limit for the year. There is no monthly cap and no restriction on how many transactions you make against it.
2. The OpenAI Catch You Need to Know First
The credit is only valid on the ChatGPT Business tier — not ChatGPT Plus, Pro, or Team. And OpenAI requires a minimum of two users to start a Business plan, which changes how you should think about using this credit.

The Math: How to Get the Most Value
Because of the 2-user minimum, the cleanest way to use this credit is to set up two seats from day one.

2 users × $30/month = $60/month. Your $300 annual credit covers your first 5 months of service completely (5 × $60 = $300). Starting in month 6, you pay out of pocket.

2 users × $25/month × 12 months = $600 billed upfront. Amex immediately applies your full $300 credit on your next statement, leaving you with a net cost of $300 out of pocket for the year — essentially half price.
Two Steps to Take Before You Pay
- Enroll first. Log into your Amex account, go to the Benefits tab, find the ChatGPT Business Credit, and click Enroll before making any purchase. Without enrollment, the credit will not trigger.
- Verify the plan tier. Make absolutely sure you are subscribing to ChatGPT Business. ChatGPT Plus ($20/month individual accounts) and ChatGPT Team do not qualify and will not trigger the statement credit.
Once enrolled and the tier confirmed, charge the subscription to your Business Platinum or Business Gold and the statement credit will post automatically within a few billing cycles.
